Description

Hector was just concluding a strained conversation with a Mr. Blithe when she walked up behind him. He had been waiting outside the glossy office building for 5 minutes while small crowds passed and Blithe probed him with questions, as if searching for weaknesses. Mr. Blithe spotted her first, and noting her proximity, pointed her out to Hector.
"An acquaintance of yours, I take it?" Inquired Blithe, nodding toward Amelia. Hector turned slightly, sighing in relief at the excuse to exit the conversation. He immediately regretted the action, not sure he could remove his gaze once it settled on the girl. Good God. He had known about the hair highlight, it had already crossed his mind that it might draw a little unwanted attention. What he had not prepared himself for was how wildly out of place she looked even disregarding the unusual locks.
"What kind of children are you hiring into this madness nowadays?" Blithe muttered at Hector, almost low enough that Amelia might not have heard. Regaining his composure, Hector turned back to Mr. Blithe.
"Highly capable ones, I assure you. Speaking of which, I didn't just swing by for idle analysis today. If you'll excuse us, my associate and I have some business to attend to."
Taking his dismissal casually, Mr. Blithe sauntered down the steps away from the building, to where a car was waiting. Finally Hector was able to turn his full attention to the issue behind him.
He took a moment to clearly understand what he was looking at, and why it was so troubling. There seemed to be many aspects at work, most obviously, how colorfully her clothing was. They were supposed to be able to blend in, which was no problem for him, he had the attire and the poise for this work left over from his former employment, not to mention his other tricks. With all its pastels Amelia's outfit seemed more fitted to an elementary teacher. Even if she had been posing as a teacher there were still elements of her that were off. She looked ill accustomed to the shoes, and despite what was clearly her best efforts her age betrayed her, making her look more like a child playing dress up. A final piece occurred to him as to her oddity. Her stance.
Had she been in the military? He was surprised he hadn't noticed any hints before. He'd have to ask about that later.
"Christ Amelia! Don't you have an inkling of professionalism? Where'd, why did you get that stuff?" He stated bluntly.
She leaned back in surprise, then forward as if to have a view of her shoes. "Lea lent me some stuff, I thought it looked about right" She dared to glance back up at him curiously for a moment.
    "Lea? Seriously?"
" She's kind of my go-to for this kind of thing."
Hector rubbed his temples. "Ok, little tip. Don't rely on shifters for fashion advice! especially the most flamboyant one off the top of your head! I wouldn't be surprised if she was trying to mess with you."
Amelias brows furrowed "I hope not, she knows I'm handicapped in her area of expertise"
Hector pushed on " Do you realize that the minute we get in there you're going to be odd one out? the plan was to draw as little attention to us as possible, which was already gonna be a tad risky with your hair thingy."
She resumed observing the ground, adding "so what, should I go try to change?"
Hector paused. What were they doing? Their argument had attracted a few stares, however petty it may have been. He had lost subtlety, the very thing they were arguing about, and precious time already.
"No,no" He said Huffily "We have a job to do. Ill do what I can to cover you." They started walking toward the building."But next time, White shirt, Black top. Bland. Background. Subtle!"
Amelia glanced at him, keeping pace. "there will be a next time?"
"Well we aren't at your strong part of the operation yet are we? Y'still got time to prove yourself. And quit keeping your hands behind your back."

Wow! You read that? neat. enthralling story yes? business people! oh no! one business person is to flamboyantly dressed!!!! DRAMA!!!! Short explanation, Ive been trying to do a drawing a day based on a color palette, todays included a character I had been thinking about for a while. Apparently she came with a short story.
